THE POMICI VERDOLINE ERUPTION (16.000 years) |
About 16,000 years ago, after a period dominated by lateral effusive activity and a successive long period of quiescence, the second Plinian eruption took place: the Pomici Verdoline eruption. The typical deposit from such an eruption consists of a fallout pumice bed at the base, followed by a succession of pyroclastic flows and surges beds.
