General Overview Current volcanic activity in the Phlegraean Fields is revealed only by the presence of fumaroles in the Solfatara in Pozzuoli, underwater fumaroles in the gulf of Pozzuoli and thermal springs.
The Solfatara in Pozzuoli. The bradyseism crisis, which affected Pozzuoli between 1982 and 1984, attracted the researchers to the study of the Solfatara, also given the frequent variations in the chemical composition of fumarole fluids, occurring during the crisis. As a consequence, the geochemical monitoring of the Flegrean area, in the following years was essentially based on the study of the Solfatara in Pozzuoli. |
